Mexico City Nightlife in Colonia Juárez

Mexico City is bursting with fun at all times of the day, but especially at night, so look out! The city is overflowing with venues serving up music and libations into the wee hours. Regardless of which area you are staying in, there will be somewhere memorable to go at night, but this post will focus on Mexico City nightlife in Colonia Juárez.

Colonia Juárez was founded in the late 19th century as a neighborhood for the wealthy looking to escape the pollution and over population of centro. The colonia fell on hard times in the 1980s but in the past number of years many of the colonia’s magnificent mansions have been restored to their former glory. Several were converted into businesses such as retail shops, bars and restaurants. Aside from the always bustling Zona Rosa, Juárez is home to some of Mexico City’s finest bars and nightlife. Although we do not run any of our gastro tours in Juárez, it is our favorite destination for a night out. Home to cool lounges and uber cool speakeasies, Juárez offers everything you could want for a great night out.

These are our personal favorites in Colonia Juárez and I am confident a few of them will become yours too:

HOP: The Beer Experience

This small beer bar has a great vibe with an impressive selection of craft beer from Mexico and abroad. They have beer available in the bottle (to go) and on tap. The staff is friendly and helpful and they serve good bar food. After finishing a taco tour in Mexico City’s Centro Histórico, this is a place I often frequent for a cold one on my way home. The continual introduction of new beers means there is always something different to look forward to trying. (Roma 13)

Monday – Wednesday 4 – 11 PM
Thursday – Friday 4 – 2 AM
Saturday 2 – 2 AM
Sunday 2 – 11 PM

Taberna Luciferina

Located in a remodeled Porfirian era mansion, the decor is industrial and minimalist cool. The chilled out atmosphere makes Taberna Luciferina a great choice to start your night out, whether you sit at a table or at the 360 degree bar, you will be able to maintain a conversation without having to yell over the music. The music is great but not too loud and the food is very good as well but you will need a reservation if you plan to visit on a weekend. The signature drink here is the ‘Aragog’ – a cocktail made from tarantula venom! (Calle Lucerna 34)

Wednesday – Saturday 2 – 2 AM

Hanky Panky Cocktail Bar

Half the fun of going to Hanky Panky is locating this hard to find speakeasy. First you must message them from their Facebook page to request the day and time you would like to visit, then they will promptly reply to let you know if there is availability on your requested night. If there is ask for directions in advance over the phone! We spent an hour trying to locate it and after much frustration were very surprised to find it at the back of an unassuming establishment. The fun ambiance and friendly bartenders make this a place to remember. The craft cocktails here are creative and taken very seriously, you can order from the menu or have the bar staff create a unique cocktail just for you, based on what you like. Hanky Panky is fun to experience but probably not for a full night, have a cocktail or two and move on. (somewhere in Colonia Juarez)

Tuesday – Saturday 6:30 – 2 AM

Parker & Lenox

At the front (Parker) of this not too difficult to find speakeasy is a diner serving up great tasting burgers. In the back (Lenox), after entering through a narrow hallway the decor is reminiscent of a 1930s jazz club. The lively, upbeat atmosphere and sound system make this an amazing venue for listening to live jazz. Libations here are very good and the live music starts around 10 PM. Parker and Lenox is a great destination to bring a date or attend with a group of friends. If you will be going on a weekend it is advisable to make a reservation by contacting them from their Facebook page. (Calle Milán 14)

Tuesday – Saturday 1 – 2 AM

Bar Milán

This is a no frills establishment known for their excellent mojitos. It is located beside Parker & Lenox, which makes it a good stop-gap if you are unable to get in next door. The friendly, efficient bartenders help make this a fun place to enjoy strong drinks and listen to old time music from the 70’s – 90’s. (Milan 18)

Thursday – Saturday 9 – 2:30 AM

These recommendations represent a fraction of the venues available for your discovery in Colonia Juárez. The bars here tend to be within close proximity of each other, making it easy to try several in one night. If you have more than a few days, you are bound to discover your own favorites, so cheers to fun times exploring the nightlife in Colonia Juárez!
